Meet Ms. Debbie
Who is Ms. Debbie?
I am a woman who has experienced a life full of highs and lows. I am a compassionate, professional with over 20 years experience in the field of education, mental health and personal empowerment.
My journey into creative empowerment coaching has been evolving throughout my life having been an educator, working with children of all ages helping them gain positive self-esteem and develop a life long love of learning.
I am a certified Kids Wisdom Coach, an Early Childhood Educator, Certified Montessori Teacher and Child Development Specialist
I have taught in Montessori classrooms and traditional early childhood classrooms with children ages 2 to 5.
My career path turned to children ages 5 to 12 experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges. I taught at therapeutic schools for 10 years, working with psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers to understand the emotional development of children. Helping children overcome obstacles and learn skills to cope with the challenges of school, relationships and life.
My work in therapeutic schools led me to learn and study more about mental health. I became an advocate for children's mental health. This led to public speaking and workshops for HAEYC, and organizations and schools throughout Texas.
After years of classroom teaching, I opened my own art studio for children and families. I developed exciting and creative programs that enhanced children's lives. I created innovative programs that facilitated learning and self-confidence.
At the height of my career I experienced the sudden death of my husband of 19 years. My life quickly changed and I found myself experiencing new and scary challenges.
Navigating through the loss and drastic disruption was extremely difficult. I found myself lost and afraid and even embarrassed. Depression crept slowly into my life and took over in little ways until it became debilitating and my life started to fall apart.
I disguised it well in public, but privately I cried, struggled and sank into a deep depression.
This led to the loss of my business, money, home and every comfort I had ever known.
This is when I took a brave step and reached out to friends and family and started a path which included stepping out of my comfort zone and starting my life over at the age of 50!
